We announce that Kanematsu Group have signed a declaration of support for the “United Nations Global Compact (hereinafter UNGC)” advocated by the United Nations, we were registered as participants on March 12, 2023. We also announce that we have joined Global Compact Network Japan, a UNGC local network, as of the same day.
The UNGC is a voluntary initiative that calls for companies and organizations to act as beneficial members of society and participate in the creation of a global framework to realize sustainable growth by demonstrating responsible and creative leadership. Companies and organizations that sign the UNGC are required to support the 10 principles related to the protection of human rights, elimination of unfair labor practices, environmental measures, and prevention of corruption, and to make continuous efforts to realize these principles.
In addition, Kanematsu Group formulated and published the Kanematsu Group’s Human Rights Policy in February 2023. It details and clarifies human rights protection initiatives to supplement existing efforts.
The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact
Human Rights | Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and |
Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses. | |
Labour | Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; |
Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour; | |
Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and | |
Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. | |
Environment | Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; |
Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and | |
Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies. | |
Anti-Corruption | Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery. |
